Bill Number: HB92
Bill Title: Local School Board Levy Rates Amendments
Bill Grade: C
Bill Sponsors: Rep. Kraig Powell
Bill Summary:
The original bill limited local school board tax levies to not exceed .018% of each taxable dollar, unless a series of requirements were met which would then allow the tax rate to be as much as .025% of each taxable dollar. The proposed amendments would raise the limit to .025% per taxable dollar without any further requirements.
Does the bill increase/decrease local control?: Neither
How?: It is a simple change to allow them to raise education taxes. There seem to be no federal or state strings attached.
Does it increase/decrease parental rights?: Neither
How?:
Does it help/hurt children?: Neither
How?: While, in theory, being able to add more tax dollars to our local school districts would seem to help our children, that has not been the demonstrable result in the past with tax increases, as the money hasn't seemed to go to where it actually benefits the children
Any conflicts of interest?:
