Reviewer Comments:
- Adds the Executive director of DWS to the STEM Action Center Board – Career opportunity is only one of many reasonable purposes for education. Giving the DWS so much power will greatly increase political pressure for career centered education without proper consideration of other equally valid educational purposes.
- 159 (e) work cooperatively with stakeholders to support and promote activities that align STEM education and training activities with the employment needs of business and industry inthe state.
- Stakeholders of what? Stakeholders has no meaning if the property being held isn’t defined. Such ambiguity could confuse this committee on its scope of authority. An ambiguity which often leads political entities to acquiring more authority than they were initially intended to.
- I think they mean the STEM Action Center shall work with businesses – which gives lobbying businesses the access to our education system which can help them at the expense of our children. For instance creating programs to push the education of Java Programmers to create a flood in the market which will lower their employment costs but route our students into under-paid jobs no longer in demand due to the recent flood.
- Provides more financial incentives for STEM teachers and finances more state curriculum which increases state money and strings in local schools, and which violates the principle of local control.
