Bill Number: HB 41
Bill Title: Fees For Supplemental Hours
Bill Grade: D
Bill Sponsors: Steve Eliason
Allows for optional extended hours for kindergarten and allows schools to charge for those hours unless there is an inability to pay.
Does the bill increase/decrease local control?: Neither
How?: In a sense it could be seen as pro local control because it does allow local districts the option to do or not do.
Does it increase/decrease parental rights?: Neither
Does it help/hurt children?: Hurts Children
How?: This bill starts the path toward using kindergarten as a day care.
Any conflicts of interest?:
This bill sets a dangerous precedent to the role of education. I like that it makes the extended hours optional and I like that it does not cost taxpayers. I do not like that it enables children to spend more time in school. I believe that it weakens families and enables parents to spend less time with their children and not take responsibility for educating and caring for their children.
