Bill Summary:
This joint resolution of the Legislature proposes to amend the Utah Constitution to
11 modify provisions relating to the State Board of Education.
12 Highlighted Provisions:
13 This resolution proposes to amend the Utah Constitution to:
14 ▸ repeal language providing for the election of members of the State Board of
15 Education; and
16 ▸ provide for members of the State Board of Education to be appointed by the
17 Governor, with the consent of the Senate.
18 Special Clauses:
19 This resolution directs the lieutenant governor to submit this proposal to voters.
20 This resolution provides a contingent effective date of January 1, 2017 for this proposal.

Reviewer Comments:
The State School Board controls 75% of the state budget, therefore, they should be elected to office. Appointment by the governor gives the governor WAY too much control over the all important issue of education. I strongly oppose this!
