Reviewer Comments:
This bill expands a current program which subsidizes colleges for producing math teachers to include the ability for those colleges to add professional development and leadership opportunities to current experienced mathematics teachers.
I generally oppose bills which subsidize specific careers as they usually favor the employers and training programs over the students by flooding the market with qualified students and only so many jobs. Employers get the pick of the crop at great prices while students must fight an unnaturally strong competition for available positions. Such subsidies should at the very least have a sunset clause. This bill is an expansion of such a subsidy and is therefore unwelcome as it further cements the subsidy into law.
