LONG TITLE
9 General Description:
10 This joint resolution of the Legislature proposes to amend the Utah Constitution to
11 modify provisions relating to the State Board of Education.
12 Highlighted Provisions:
13 This resolution proposes to amend the Utah Constitution to:
14 ▸ repeal language providing for the election of members of the State Board of
15 Education; and
16 ▸ provide for members of the State Board of Education to be appointed by the
17 Governor, with the consent of the Senate.
18 Special Clauses:
19 This resolution directs the lieutenant governor to submit this proposal to voters.
20 This resolution provides a contingent effective date of January 1, 2017 for this proposal.

We already have an appointed state school board that has been carefully vetted to not oppose Common Core. Having a pro-Common Core governor hand pick the people who get in those seats guarantees uniformity of thought, not representation of the people in what is the single largest budget item of the state, education money.
